PRESERVING HONEY BEES IN PARADISE:
KBT'S INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO BEEKEEPING

A SPECIES IN PERIL:

Mainland bees are facing a dire threat, with factors like widespread pesticide use, deforestation, and monoculture practices leading to a significant decline in feral bee colonies. Kaua`i Bee Team (KBT) has responded with a unique solution – Isolated Bee Sanctuaries, situated in pesticide, herbicide, and GMO-free environments. Our apiaries provide a safe haven for honey bees, allowing them to thrive in a natural setting while maximizing their feral instincts.

TOP-BAR BEEKEEPING:

Embracing the traditional top-bar methodology, KBT maintains colonies as self-sustaining units, letting bees construct comb freely, just as they would in the wild. This method yields combs coated in propolis, exhibiting antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, and antifungal properties. By carefully harvesting old wax, we prevent disease build-up, ensuring hive hygiene and minimizing mortality compared to other beekeeping methods.

Isolated Apiaries:

Nestled in the exotic landscape of Kauai, our six sustainable apiaries boast a rich array of medicinal plants, including eucalyptus, tea tree, guava, allspice, clove, and the Native Hawaiian Ohi`a. Each winter sees between 1.5-3 million bees, while the summer population soars to 3.75-7.2 million. With 120 hives at maximum capacity, our bees pollinate up to 750 million pounds of food daily, supporting a thriving ecosystem.

Join us in OUR FIGHT TO safeguard THE honeybee and PROTECT the vital role THEY PLAY IN OUR ECOSYSTEM.
