- OUR MISSION -
WE ARE A 501(C)(3), NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION BASED ON THE ISLAND OF KAUAI ON A MISSION TO COMBAT HONEYBEE POPULATION DECLINE THROUGH THE ART OF NATURAL BEEKEEPING.
Preserving Pollinators
Nestled on the beautiful island of Kaua'i, within the world's most isolated landmass, the Kaua'i Bee Team (KBT) has established pollinator sanctuaries dedicated to safeguarding the honeybee—one of the world's most vital contributors. Resembling seed banks, our numerous apiaries collectively shelter anywhere from 1.5 to 7.2 million bees at a time, depending on the season. These industrious pollinators, fostering locally endemic, non-GMO, and pesticide-free botanicals, play a pivotal role in revitalizing the natural ecosystem. Flourishing in this rich environment, our bees produce unique medicinal-grade honey through a cold-press method that preserves key nutrients which we distribute to those in need.
KBT's core mission centers on the protection of Kauai's pollinators and rescuing hives that would otherwise face extermination. Every bee within our colonies has been saved from potential harm, and by relocating them to secure sites around the island, we've significantly bolstered the local bee population. Our broader aim is to raise awareness about the critical role bees play in our planet's survival and outline simple steps to ensure the preservation of this exquisite insect.
A Commitment to Sustainability
SUSTAINABLE AND ECO-FRIENDLY PRACTICES:
Our commitment to a plastic-free operation goes beyond reducing waste—it conserves energy and vital resources like water, petroleum, natural gas, and coal, traditionally consumed in plastic production. Embracing biodegradable packaging safeguards against the proliferation of plastics in landfills and oceans.
MINIMIZING CARBON IMPACT:
By championing plant reproduction, we elevate oxygen levels. Our sanctuaries not only supply organic local food to our community but also diminish reliance on globally transported, commercially imported foods, effectively curbing carbon emissions. Prioritizing local sourcing is a proactive step towards carbon footprint reduction.
PRESERVING NATURAL HABITATS:
Our log-like structures, crafted from untreated wood and coated with linseed oil and beeswax, epitomize complete biodegradability. This approach empowers bees to construct their hives in alignment with their genetic heritage, ensuring the preservation of successful genetics while maintaining the integrity of wild habitats.
